  • Online therapy sessions happen via secure video conferencing. Before your first appointment, you’ll receive guidance on how to connect, what to expect. Your psychologist will create a confidential, safe space just as in face-to-face therapy. We’ll work together on your goals, explore patterns of thought and behaviour, and practice strategies and tools that suit your life. Many find the convenience helps reduce stress and barriers to accessing support.

  • Yes! Research and clinical experience show online therapy can be highly effective, and as successful to in-person work. The key is a strong therapeutic relationship, consistency, and your active involvement. We also adapt methods to ensure they work well in the online setting.

  • At The Online Psychologists, we don’t expect you to choose alone. Every client first has a free consultation call with TOP’s Clinical Director. This personalised matching process helps ensure you feel comfortable from the outset and increases the chances of therapy being effective and meaningful.

  • Unlike large corporate therapy platforms, we are a small, specialist clinic led by highly trained Clinical Psychologists. Every client begins with a free consultation call with the Clinical Director of The Online Psychologists -  a Clinical Psychologist who carefully considers your needs, goals, and preferences before matching you with the clinical psychologist in the team who is best placed to help. This means you are never allocated to a therapist at random or based on a computer algorithm. You’re matched by an experienced clinician to a clinician whose expertise and therapeutic approach truly fit you.

Because we only work with HCPC-registered Clinical Psychologists, you can be assured of the highest level of training and evidence-based care. Our psychologists also benefit from working as part of a supportive team, with regular supervision and opportunities to share expertise, so clients receive the depth and quality of input that is often missing from high-volume online providers.

  • Sessions typically last about 50–60 minutes, though some formats or therapists may offer shorter or longer. The number of sessions needed varies greatly depending on your goals, the depth of the issues you’re addressing, and how quickly you wish to move. Some people see benefit within a few sessions; others engage in longer-term work. We’ll regularly review progress together and adjust accordingly.

  • In the first session we’ll focus on getting to know each other, understanding your background, current concerns, and what you hope to change or achieve. We’ll discuss confidentiality, how we will work together, agree on goals, and decide on a plan. It's also a chance for you to ask questions and see if the psychologist feels like the right fit.

  • Your privacy is paramount. All therapy sessions are confidential in accordance with professional ethical guidelines. We use secure, encrypted video platforms. Notes are stored safely, access-restricted, and handled in line with data protection laws. Exceptions to confidentiality (e.g. risk of harm to self/others) will be clearly explained. You can ask whenever you like about how your data is stored or used.

  • Life can be unpredictable, and sometimes plans change. If you need to cancel or move a session, we ask for at least 48 hours’ notice. This allows us to offer the time to another client. Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice are charged in full. Your psychologist will confirm the details of this policy before you begin, so everything feels clear from the outset.

  • No special equipment is required beyond a stable internet connection, a device with video and audio capability (computer, tablet or smartphone), and a private, quiet space where you feel comfortable speaking freely. Headphones can help with privacy. We’ll send you guidance on how to optimise tech and environment so that the session is effective.

  • Change can be subtle and gradual. You may notice shifts in how you feel, behave, or relate over time. We might set small goals together and review them regularly. Also, you might see reduction in symptoms (less anxiety, fewer panic attacks etc.), improved coping skills, more self-awareness. Feedback from you is essential - we’ll ask how you feel things are going and adjust therapeutic work accordingly.

  • It’s simple. Reach out to schedule an initial consultation. We’ll talk through what you want, match you with the psychologist best suited, explain fees, scheduling, and get you set up for your first session. We’re here to support you every step of the way.
