Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT)

MBT is a therapy that strengthens the ability to mentalise - to reflect on your own and others’ thoughts, feelings, and intentions - improving stability and relationships.

What is it?

Mentalisation-Based Therapy (MBT) helps you develop the ability to understand your own and others’ thoughts, feelings, and intentions. It emphasises building curiosity about mental states and strengthening emotional regulation, particularly in situations that feel intense or confusing.

When it helps

MBT is particularly effective for people who experience difficulties in relationships, emotional instability, or personality-related challenges. It can also be valuable if you often feel misunderstood, find it hard to trust others, or struggle to make sense of your feelings and reactions in the moment.

What to expect

In MBT, your psychologist will help you slow down and reflect on what might be happening in your mind and in the minds of others. You’ll build awareness of thoughts and feelings, practise reflective skills, and explore different perspectives. Over time, this can support greater emotional steadiness, more understanding relationships, and a stronger sense of security.
